Following reports on Sainsburys possible plans for expansion in the Gloucester Road/Ashley Down area, a spokesperson at Sainsburys Local on the Gloucester Road said 'It is news to us.' When asked if Sainsburys are liable to attract a different kind of customer from the current High Street style of the existing Gloucester Road, the spokesperson declined to comment. There is no doubt that the established Somerfield Stores, of which there are three on the Gloucester Road main drag, are the type of stores that the majority of residents in the area wish to shop at, though Sainsburys' reputation for quality may prove a big pull for mobile shoppers coming from the ever-expanding Westbury-on-Trym districts.

Ha ha, I never credited Sainsburys PR department with a sense of humour. Talk about dissing the opposition - Mee-oww! (For "mobile shoppers" read people who dont have transport so dont have a choice)
To anyone who watched it, the most credible argument yet for the need for competition and a viable, realistic, quality alternative to Tesco Golden Hill and Tesco Eastville...right here on the Gloucester Rd where the local concerned community shop....
....... a whole program dissing Tesco supermarkets and not a squeak from a poor independant retailer anywhere .....or was it that I fell asleep for lack of anything we did'nt know already about successful businesses?
