Bike The Pipe
Wales should be on RED ALERT this week as work picks up pace on phase two of National Grid's controversial high-pressure gas pipeline.
Growing opposition to the £16.billion pipeline project has been
mounting as communities along the 196 mile stretch have woken up to it's catastrophic potential.
Bristol Rising Tide's Claire Hall, 25, will be cycling the length of
phase two of the pipe, dubbed 'the pipeline to disaster' by local
protest groups, starting on Sunday 25th March in Felinder near
Swansea, and finishing 122 miles later in Corse near Gloucester.
Claire, who was inspired by last years Climate Camp for Action Against Drax power station in North Yorkshire, hopes her efforts will help to convince people that there really are viable alternatives to burning fossil fuels.
She hopes her actions will demonstrate that thousands of people, from Qatar to Gloucester, are being needlessly exposed to the risk of highly pressurised methane gas, simply to perpetuate the fossil fuel economy.
Claire will be stopping to talk to local residents along the way, to
give them posters and leaflets, to help connect communities that are concerned about the dangers of the pipe, that, experts say, has the explosive potential of twenty atomic bombs.
