Honor seniors on Football's Silver Saturday

Club fans are rallying to create a Silver Saturday for the pre-season game August 4th to honor those seniors who turned them on to the game but who can no longer enjoy the game in person themselves.

Thornton, Pennsylvania, USA --(June 25, 2007) – James Rumsey is passionate about football and has respect for those who introduced him to the game. He has proposed that all clubs, led by his West Ham Utd, participate in Silver Saturday on August 4th, 2007 by donating at least 1% of the gate to charities for the elderly and allocating free seating for “silver” support.
“The ‘Silver Saturday’ Pledge Campaign on YouChoose.net gets to the heart of why we launched YouChoose.net” says Mike Dever, co-founder of YouChoose.net, “It leverages the passions of individuals to support a good cause. In this case supporting elderly fans who by themselves are unable to attend the football games of their favorite clubs.”
“The cornerstone to this happening is West Ham or another big club supporting it”, states Mr. Rumsey, a WHUFC supporter. “I had a meeting with Help the Aged and they are very excited about it. A new issue I hadn't considered emerged from my meeting with them - reaching this sector of society is tough due to isolation of the aged. It’s a real problem because nobody notices them and their needs. Therefore, it adds more commitment to making this day a success to highlight the initial intention and the nature of our ‘invisible’ aged community”.
The ‘Silver Saturday” Pledge Campaign launched by Mr. Rumsey is a grass-roots campaign that asks individuals to help get elderly fans to the games, providing them with transportation and seating. It does not require any official backing from clubs or the F.A., it can all be done by individual action.
