March sees both International Women's Day and Women's History Month and in celebration of this Bristol Indymedia Film Night will be screening the acclaimed documentary 'Into the Fire' which looks at the role of women from all over the world who joined struggle against fascism in prelude to World War II; the Spanish Civil War.

"Hemingway, Dos Passos, Orwell, and other famous men have related their experiences during the Spanish Civil War. Now we hear from some considerably less-known women, and their stories are vivid and moving!" - Seattle Weekly

Witness the heights of heroism through the American women who, in defiance of the U.S. government, joined the fight against the Fascists in Spain's 1936 civil war. Sixteen nurses, writers, and journalists share their stories of courage and commitment to a just cause. In the words of one film critic, "their heroism leaves Hemingway's romantic notions of this war in the dust."

"Riveting....reveals a history our history books deliberately forget." - Monthly Review

Bristol Indymedia is pleased welcome back Professor Gill Hague of Bristol University to introduce the screening!

Review: "Into the Fire sticks to the personal memoirs of the volunteers, and remains a stirring reminder of what it means to be committed, to put one's life on the line for what one believes. What we remember most are the faces of the women, never too tired to smile for the snapshots." http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s2273fire.html
