Join in with the media democracy revolution!

Want to get involved in one of the most dynamic and exciting media democracy projects in the South West? Bristol Indymedia has a number of opportunities for volunteers who are interested in the issues of media democracy, thinking global and acting local.

The following positions are currently available:


Website Administrator/Editor

Role: An important role working as part of a small team doing the day-to-day running of the Bristol Indymedia website; deleting the spam, hiding articles and comments that break the guidelines and creating editorial features from articles you feel are either/both important or interesting.

Location: This can be done from any computer with a connection to the internet but needs you to be able to make most bi-monthly meetings in Bristol.

Time Needed: This role takes around 3 to 7 hours per month. Anything from 5 to 30 minutes in any given day plus a meeting every two months.

Technical Knowledge Needed: None, all required training will be given and it's easy to learn!


Technical Collective Member

Role: This vital work is to join the global development team who work on the open-source Oscailt system that powers Bristol Indymedia. This varies from bits of maintenance to developing and implementing cool new features. You ideas and skills won't just help to develop Bristol Indymedia, but also many other Indymedia sites that use the Oscailt system!

Location: This can be done from any computer with a connection to the internet, but needs you to be able to make most bi-monthly meetings in Bristol.

Time Needed: This role takes around 1 to 10 hours per month, depending on what is happening.

Technical Knowledge Needed: Ideally you would need a knowledge of PHP and MySQL, but some training can be given.

Film Night Collective Member

Role: To join with the highly successful film night collective in running our regular monthly film night at the Cube cinema, Bristol. This means everything from suggesting ideas for films/events, working with groups and people, organising the screenings and, running the publicity.

Location: You would need to be in-and about Bristol and free on the first Monday evening of each month.

Time Needed: This role takes around 4 to 10 hours per month.

Technical Knowledge Needed: None - just inspiration and ideas!
