![]() Bristol Schools-kids Srayed with CS gas by Bungling Police Expect to hear more of this, 'cos it's a jaw dropping story: Police sprayed CS gas on a group of school kids in Bristol a few days back and the parents are very, very angry. Just before half-term at Whitefield, Fishponds, there was a fight between two school girls. As is the case with school fights, it is not long before a crowd of kids had gather round to watch (same thing used to happen when I was at school). The teachers, apparently, are not allowed to wade in and break it up, so they called the police. By now there is about 30 or so school-kids gathered round watching the two girls. All involved were under 15. |

An excerpt from the link to the BBC web site, submitted by Meja :-
"The fight began between two teenage girls, with about 15 other people then joining in.
Avon and Somerset Police said: "It was essential the officer acted quickly to prevent serious injury to those involved and break up the serious disorder incident which was escalating in violence." "
Not one to normally stand up for the police, i must say in this case the single (?) officer who attended this incident, and had to make a snap decision, had a difficult job.
Given the current climate of knife crime amongst youngsters, maybe he used the spray in the belief that he was preventing something much more serious from happening.
You talk about two school girls fighting as if it was an armed paramilitary group. Despite to the media view the vast, vast majority of teenagers don't carry weapons, mug people, explode bombs are anything else. They lead normal lives and for the police to CS spray them for a bit of a scrap is another scary step towards the militarising of the police.

...when reading the BBC report of this incident.
Are you sure they made the bits up about the "15 other people then joining in", and "A 17-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault at the scene" ?
These excerpts can be read through the above link to the BBC website, submitted by Meja.
Mind you, the way they reported, or DIDN'T report the Iraq war, i wouldn't put anything past the BBC.
They're just one more corporate media spin tool.
Do the police have no courage any more?
That appears to be at the heart of this story.
An inexcusable use of CS spray if ever I wsaw it - but of course the police control freaks try to justify it - they think we are stupid which adds insult to injury.
