THE BOMB STOPS HERE
12 noon Easter Monday - 24th March
Atomic Weapons Establishment Aldermaston, Nr Reading
We invite you to participate in a lively demonstration against the development of nuclear weapons at Aldermaston and to celebrate 50 years of anti-nuclear protest in Britain. Coaches are going up from Bristol see below.
This Easter marks the 50th anniversary of the first march to the Atomic Weapons Establishment Aldermaston - the heart of Britain's nuclear weapons programme. We need you - and your friends, colleagues, communities, and networks - to surround the base and create a colourful, effective, and massive demonstration.
With parliament voting in March 2007 for a new fleet of nuclear armed submarines, and with the construction of facilities for a new generation of nuclear warheads already underway at Aldermaston, it's time to send a clear message to the government that 50 years is enough! While celebrating five decades of sustained campaigning against nuclear weapons, the emphasis will be on embracing the future, pushing for disarmament and working together to build a broad movement that grows from strength to strength.
Each gate is to reflect one of the decades of protest, and Bristol and the South West contingent will be gathering at Construction Gate where we will be in the 1960s theme. Groups can come dressed as they want, could be in theme with the gates, or as weapons inspectors, or campaigners from the future, or as nuclear bombs, or flowers!
During the day it is hoped that there will be sufficient people to surround the base. This will take about 5,000 people who can be linked with arms, banners, ribbons or other props. The event will be organised using the ' Block' structure so that your group comes ready to take up as much space around the site as possible. Join the Bristol CND group or make up a group of your own. We have a website for your 'Block' to add their details and how much space they can take up along the fence line

Easter Monday 2008
12 noon Arrive and head to gate
12.30-2pm The speakers tour the gates and there will be entertainment at gates.
2pm Get into position and surround the base.
2.30pm Text messaging to co-ordinate collective noise etc.
3pm Closing action/ceremony then the first coaches will be leaving, however, the protest will continue for a hour or so afterwards.
Speakers and Entertainment
At the moment CND have a number of confirmed speakers and faith leaders, activists, international campaigners, trade unionists,
Parliamentarians and of course organisers and participants in the first
March. We will also be joined by activists from Japan, including
a number of Hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors).
Roving Buses
CND is also hoping to have a bus or float which will carry
entertainers/speakers between the different gates, enabling everyone to see and hear them.
Food
Although CND are hoping to have some food available (Veggies and others are coming) it would be useful if people could bring their own food and food to share. Lets also have a Peace Picnic!
Toilet Facilities
Toilets (including wheelchair accessible toilets) will be provided at
various sites around the base.
This should be a fun day and you will be with friends and fellow peace protesters, so what better way to spend an Easter Monday?
