Is it a joke? We hope so or the region is in trouble...

"logo and slogan, rather than true vision" ? Is it a joke? We hope so or the region is in trouble...

A mole has told us about an interesting article in an interesting little publication, Silicon South West. In issue 15 (the April issue!) an article entitled 'South West debates globalisation and opens up new technology' there was this gem of wonk-speak:

"The debate was the culmination of a year’s consultation on the future direction for the region, set by the South West Regional Development Agency....Bringing together companies for their comment highlighted a need for direction and leadership in the region, although this was reduced to the need for the region to have a logo and slogan, rather than true vision. The consensus was that region also suffers from lack of identity. People outside Europe identify Bristol, but not the South West, and that was prompting SWRDA to look at branding the region around Bristol."

Did they really write that? After a YEAR of consultation they offer "a logo and slogan, rather than true vision" - we are waiting for a mole to tell us what this year of consultation might have cost us tax-payers.

And if you live in the rest of the South West, sorry but SWRDA has decided you are now just an annexe of the Bristol massive.

Happy April, fools.

The Post have caught up now, seeing there are 'issues' with SWRDA, where as bloggers like the Bristol Blogger have been pointing to this for some time. However we welcome any and all scrutiniy of who and how our money is spent by unelected quangos:

The South West Regional Development Agency spent £36,000 on a six- day visit to an event on the French Riviera described as a "star-studded champagne jolly".
