The fascist British National Party has since May 1st recently increased its number of local councillors by ten (taking it the total figure to over 50), in addition to making a relative break-through by gaining a seat on the Greater London Assembly.

Experience shows that whenever they get people elected rascist attacks go up in the local area. And a rise in the BNP's confidence can only mean that we are one step further towards the alarming situation, including anti-immigrant pograms, seen currently in Italy following victories for the fascist Northern League.

We must not be complacent here in Bristol and elsewhere about how the fascists will try to use the growing financial crisis and hardship amongst ordinary people to encourage rascist scapegoating and a politics of despair.
