200 miles with a message
Kebele Cafe is proud to present a night celebrating the achievement and spreading the message of 'direct action thru cycle traction' Claire!
Over to Claire with more details:
"Bike the Pipe is a story/travel documentary that combines my personal epic
cycling journey along the route of National Grid's dangerous Welsh gas
pipeline with the stories of the people I encounter along the way.
In March 2007 I left the gentler confines of city cycling and embarked on my
first ever long distance bike ride. The aim was to Bike the Pipe - to follow
the route of a high-pressure gas pipeline that was being built from Swansea
to Gloucester. Inspired by my involvement in a community-based campaign
against the pipe in Trebanos, my vision was to carry seeds of information
and inspiration on resisting the pipeline, and to prove to myself that I
could cycle 200 miles!
Bike the Pipe charts the day-by-day highs and lows of my journey as I face
new physical and mental challenges. From an unexpected mad and lovable
travelling companion to many (but not all) people telling me that its too
late to do anything, I share my thoughts about democracy, apathy, corporate
spin and twisted archaeology as I get closer to the end of my ride – Corse:
a Gloucestershire village where National Grid hasn't been quite getting
their own way……
From 6.30 there will be a 'Bicycled Themed' dinner at the regular Sunday
evening community cafe to get you in the mood."
