Over the years, Temwa has charmed and cajoled Bristolians to promote, perform and attend musical events in aid of their various projects in Malawi. This CD is a slice of Bristol’s musical culture and a testament to the energy and commitment of the local scene to have a positive affect on peoples lives beyond the city limits. Bristol is an amazing, wonderful, musical city, with a very warm and generous heart and many talented citizens. This album proves it.

The name TemPlates came about for several reasons. Firstly, across Africa, vinyl records are commonly called ‘plates’ and secondly, we hope this album will be a template for many more to come in the future, hence calling it Vol. 1!

:: ABOUT TEMWA ::

Temwa is a Bristol-based organisation that raises funds to implement community-based development projects in Malawi, southern Africa.

The first project is based in an area called Usisya, on the north shore of Lake Malawi. This remote region of 56 villages has no electricity, no running water and is severely affected by the AIDS epidemic. NGOs (non governmental organisations) working in the region, as well as the local government, strongly encouraged Temwa in the selection of this area, due to its strong need for basic development.

Overseen by a project manager in Malawi, Temwa consists of a series of programmes that are aimed at providing sustainable community-driven development in four key areas:

• Health education
• Skills development
• Agriculture and irrigation
• Schools support

We have 15 full time employees in Malawi, who manage and ensure the safe keeping of the projects in Malawi. The UK team consists of a dedicated group of volunteers, an experienced board of trustees, and a UK Manager and UK Project Administrator, who are employed on a part-time basis. This means minimal costs, with the majority of funds raised going directly to the programmes in Malawi.
