Barton Hill Urban Park

category bristol | community | press release author Friday August 08, 2008 18:30author by Shit on the shoe - Community at Heart Report this post to the editors

Who was consulted ?

The new Urban park was opened less than 2 years ago, In March 'they' the Local N,.D.C. (so called Community at Heart) decided to employ 'Parklife' (consultants from London) as there was some money availabl;e from Europe - the idea was to enhance the play of the new Urban Park.

In early March 2008 Comunity at Heart commissioned Park Life, a company from London (Local Conection, - well Temple Meads is only 1 3/4 hours from London, so it's semi local).
The decision was taken to install a 'water feature' along with an infants slide, (The slide was requested by the residents, as the one installed in the original design was far too big for 18 month - 2 year old infants).
Today 6th August some 6 months later the slide is in place as is the water feature, minus any water.
To access the slide young infants are expected to climb LARGE ROCKS with no hand rails and these rocks form part of the non - water feature.
The water feature has no water for the following reasons
The consultants failed to inform Bristol Water of the project
The contractor connected the water feature directly to the mains water supply without fitting a non-return valve.
The water main that the feature is coneccted to is to be moved in the near future when the Shops at Avonvale Road are demolished and Houses are built.
The reason for moving the water main is, that if not moved it would be under the new houses.

Like the 'Mole Hills' on the Netham Playing fields another good project NOT thought through by the people invested with the responsibilty of spending £50m of public money in this area.

Through out all this fiasco where has the CEO been ? Why has she not spoken out or raised the issue with the 'Accountble (sic joke) Bristol City Council or an even sicker joke the Government Office for the South West ? Perhaps they all wear Lederhosen and share the same handshake.
Sarah Keel the CEO of Community at Heart is spending our money (£97,000 a year on a house in Evercreech, instead of behaving in a responsable manner).

The most corrupt part of this fiasco is that the overpaid person from Community at Heart, put in charge of the project Peter Davies (Big house in Bath £49,000 per year) authorised payment to Pondlife aka Parklife before the project was even STARTED so what incentive is there for them to complete the work.
