![]() Shia Muslim convicted of child cruelty after forcing two boys to flog themselves As much as some Muslims suffer discrimination and I know that for I was and am still experiencing such acts of discrimination. Such experiences left many of my colleagues ' journalists' with one of two choices, either to show biased extreme views, or be extremely worried about hurting the feelings of people from other minorities. Both choices are wrong, because journalism is about ethics and responsibility towards the society in the first place. There are christian sects that retain their followers by preaching that their god threatens "fire, brimstone and eternal damnation" should they stray. But theirs cannot be the one true God who delights in truth, justice and righteousness.
There are religions that claim their god decrees it ok to dispossess a whole people, millions of souls, of their home land. And then the usurpers happily dwell on this stolen land without a qualm of conscience.
But theirs cannot be the one true God who delights in truth, justice and righteousness.
Today money is all, morals stand for nothing, and who but millionaires with vast amounts of shares in the arms trade gain from such criminal imperial policies?
Even our soldiers who used to have the most honourable of professions as guardians of our peace are now little more than Bush's mercenaries, invading and killing poor people by the million. No wonder so many of our young men return home from illegal invasions mentally broken, (10% of our prison population are ex-soldiers), they just cannot come to terms with this unnecessary killing of their fellow man.
These warring policies naturally translate to the violence and degradation of today's US-UK societies, we value the profits above all else - and the Prophets, count for little, if at all.
Religion is supposed to defend ethics and help the weak. This is why religion is sometimes an extremely sensitive issue to handle, because it is the weak point or the soft spot many can be lured through to act, or be used to execute some acts of violence in the name of God or defending one's religion. This is why there should be other humanitarian bodies working in parallel lines with people of faith, should some lose their way and stray away from common sense, others can help bring them back to what is for the good of all people.
If one reads the history he will find ample evidence of recorded atrocities and cruelty committed by the name of God or religion, these we now know is outrageous, but people then found excuses for such horrors to happen.
I guess religion is more and more becoming an individual choice, focussing more on personal civil activities related to relationships like marriage, inheritance, and similar issues. But the general bigger issues are determined by committees representing law and backed up by debates between all concerned parties including representatives of different faiths.
There are things no one can argue about regardless of one’s faith... like cruelty.
