recydrate - was it worth the compromise?

category bristol | policing | opinion/analysis author Wednesday September 03, 2008 10:38author by raver Report this post to the editors

recydrate the west had to move to wales coz of the ridiculous fees that avon & somerset police were going to charge, unfortunatley police/security behaviour at baskerville hall made it at times an uncomfortable place to be to say the least...

first ll i'd like to say thanks to the dmt crew for organising it and the relatively low ticket fee. it was a beautiful place to have it, and generally i had a wicked time.

unlike shambala, the policing/security was anything like low-key. people were hassled and pushed around by security. someone got arrested for skinning-up at a festival. two others for drunk and disorderly. someone else for being near someone who had drugs.

maybe i am more political than your average punter, but i would have to think again about paying to be subjected to such treatment.

i understand why dmt (and other sound system crews) are looking at alternatives to illegal, frequently, pigged free parties, but if you go to the trouble of organising a licensed event, and you still get the hassle of a free party, you have to question whether the compromise was worth it.
