Blue Mountain could be next

CLOCKWORK - IT COULD STILL BE DEMOLISHED AND CAUSE THE CLOSURE OF BLUE MOUNTAIN

You may remember that there was a planning application to demolish Clockwork (4-10 Stokes Croft) and replace it with a building twice as high as Clockwork which would be student flats and retail space. Although the planning applcation was refused, the applicant appealed against the decision and an appeal is now in progress.

The main points are that:

* Stokes Croft is a Conservation Area and as such, the buildings within it are considered of value and historic interest.
* The proposed development is two full storeys higher than what's there already and would significantly change the appearance of Stokes Croft. It would also lay precedent to other tall buildings in the area.
* The proposed development would be temporary homes for students, not families or local people - If the resident students complain about noise levels from Blue Mountain (next door) this would almost certainly mean Blue Mountain would be forced to close too - yet another club lost forever.

You can make a difference! If you would like to help curb the creep of homogenous profit driven development up Stokes Croft, please go to the following link and follow the instructions for making your comment:

N.B. the Deadline for submissions is Tuesday 23rd September.

There will be an informal hearing about this on the Tuesday 4th November at the council house and we, the public, are allowed to go and make our voices heard.
