London RSS debate in parliament

category bristol | the environment | news report author Tuesday September 30, 2008 20:47author by Chris Report this post to the editors

Bristol group to lobby MPs over plans for 'development' of green field sites.

On Tuesday 7th October MPs are discussing proposals in the Regional Spatial Strategy for tens of thousands of new houses around Bristol and South Gloucestershire, many of which will be on green belt land.

The position of the Save Siston and Warmley Green Spaces group is that whilst there are an estimated 830,000 vacant homes in the UK, and many brown field sites that can be developed, it borders on the criminal that plans are afoot to built new homes on green belt land.

Ths is the only planned debate on the RSS proposals, and we are taking a coach to London to lobby MPs and to hand in a petition at number 10.. There are still places on the coach, the cost of which will be in the region of £10 per seat if the coach can be filled. It will leave Warmley Community Centre at 7.30.am on Tuesday and will leave London about 4pm.

As far as our green belt goes, this really is the 11th hour! These plans, if they go ahead, will drasticallty affect not only the east side of Bristol, but many other areas as well, and will open the flood gates for the 'development' of green field spaces everywhere. Please join us in London on the 7th. For further details and to book your place please ring Jacquie Stephens on 0117 9141660.
