Bristol Indymedia Film Night: Monday 6th October 2008 8pm @ Cube Cinema
The official verdict of Dr Kelly's tragic death is suicide - but is this true? Why were so many deals about the death so different form other suicide cases? If it was not suicide, then what happened? What were the 'dark forces' referred to in Dr Kelly's cryptic emails? Bristol Indymedia is pleased to present a talk by Norman Baker MP, author of the acclaimed book 'The Strange Death of David Kelly' who will be talking about his research and answering questions on the subject. July 17th 2003: On the eve of the Iraq war, with international tensions at their height and the drum-beat for war reaching its shocking crescendo - a man is found dead in the Oxfordshire countryside - but this is not just any man. This was a world renowned weapons inspector, the 'unnamed expert' in the controversial BBC reports over the veracity of WMD claims and at the epicentre of a global media storm, Dr David Kelly. Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4Sorry I couldn't come as I was giving a talk up north but I'd like to know how it went and what, if any, conclusions were drawn out.
This was a vibrant talk by Norman Baker MP, who wrote his book, "The Strange Death of David Kelly", out of respect for the memory of a quiet, intelligent, conscientious man.
The very least we owe to a man who made tireless efforts to maintain peace in the Middle East, is a true account of his death.
Of course Dr David Kelly's work as weapons inspector, and the assurances that Iraq didn't have any WMD's, was a major obstacle to the Bush/Blair Iraq invasion plan. So here is a strong motive for his permanent removal.
The Cube Cinema was very well attended for this event and Norman Baker talked for about an hour followed by questions from the audience and the sale of Norman's book. I bought a copy and find it cuts through spin like a hot knife through butter. It is so refreshing to hear a politician standing up for what he really believes instead of some version concocted for strategic reasons.
But I was very soon to be brought back to earth with a bump when I watched Bernard Jenkin MP attempt to continue the Iraq spin on the BBC's Daily Politics the following day, Tuesday, at midday.
Bernard Jenkin must be of the school that if you tell a lie often enough people will believe you.
We have lived, eaten and drank the invasion of Iraq for five years, does he think he's talking to an audience from another planet?
The only thing we're led to believe by his lies on Iraq is that Bernard Jenkin is a liar.
But then, he would say that wouldn't he:-
Bernard Jenkin Conservative North Essex.

Firstly i must say "thanks" for the time you devote, and the good service you do for the voiceless, which is greatly appreciated.
I'd like to bring to your attention, what may perhaps be a BBC or Conservative troll is active and sowing chaff comments on current articles thus degrading the level of discussion.
The troll in question is currently going under the author name of "Jeff Fisher".
Thanking you again.
