Bonfire Night Comes Early in Bris

No it's not Beirut, this is Brislington, Bristol, last night.

Watch out - your car could be next
Watch out - your car could be next

This is our next door neighbour's car in Brislington. I think someone doused the ground with petrol and then torched it.

So... be vigilant. At this time of year it's best to watch out for arseholes who enjoy doing this kind of thing.

On the plus side I called the emergency services as soon as I spotted this and they were here within two or three minutes. Respect!

I can see lots of problems with burning (people's) cars of course, and this doesn't look like it was politically motivated either, but really - cars are burning up the planet: 150,000 people die annually already (according to WHO) because of climate chaos; humans & our activities are primarily responsible (according to UN IPCC); it is our choices getting in cars, on planes, what we eat (& so on) that directly impact on others' lives around the globe, and on future generations actually having a liveable planet!

Get rid of your car

Its not car ownership that necessarily burns up the plant, its car ridership. In other words a car uses no resources unless driven, unlike say a horse, which is partly why horses and oxen stopped being used for comercial transport. If we had better public transport we would use cars less, but even then a car might be needed for places or times with no public transport. Have you ever tried to get to work at 3 in the morning across town or even 150 miles away on a Sunday?

'a car uses no resources unless driven'

Are you suggesting that manufacturing a car requires no resources? Really??? You sure about that?
