The Rise of DIY Media in the South West
As the latest issue of both Hard Copy and the Bath Bomb hits the streets (and the net), it seems there is a growing wave of DIY media! Bristol Indymedia writes: With exclusive stories and some of the best articles and news from the Bristol Indymedia website, it's the only local newspaper that is free, ad-free and copyright free (all content is under a Creative Commons licence!) Hard Copy is news made by people for people. Issue 2 has exclusive stories on pollution at Cabot Circus and an inside view on the Poles in Bristol – plus much more. We have started distributing Hard Copy, but you can help us build a people-media network across the city; can you spare 5 minutes to deliver issues to your street? Can you ask your local cafe, pub or community centre if they would like some? We welcome help with distributing issue 2 of Hard Copy...Full article.
Other media activity includes Dialect radio, news on the Women in Bristol monitoring the media and a Bristol Indymedia Volunteers Chat (20th October 6-7pm, at the Folk House, 40a Park Street, Bristol). We have also seen bloggers posting interesting articles to the site including recent contributions from; onthelevelblog.com (article), noborderswales.wordpress.com (article), eveningpostwatch.wordpress.com (article) & peoplebeforeprofit.wordpress.com (article)

Cabot Circus seems like the ideal place to take the Critical Mass cycle ride. Trouble is us cycalists would be moving at twice the speed of any motors around there! But lets do it anyway!
A couple of people in the bristol flickr group have been prevented from photographing the cabot circus development by security...the law around photography in the uk says it's okay to photo anything if it's a public space, but on private property it's up to the owners...does anyone know if this IS a privately owned space like Liverpool One, or does it belong to the council (and is therefore public)?
Photography geeks are not by nature a particularly radical bunch, but illegally preventing camera use is enough to generate a mass photo-trespass!
Cabot Circus is private space. As is Quakers Friars and East Broadmead, which have been given by the council to Land Securities.
I got a camera also - how many others?
