Direct Action needed : SAVE PENWITH MOORS

Historic Penwith Moorland to be trashed

Natural "England" in its horrific HEATH Project, aims to destroy the intrinsic nature and character of the Penwith Moors. The National Trust is currently wreaking havoc near the Four Parishes Stone, south of Carn Galva. In this lonely place, where no vehicles, including tractors, ever go, are earthmovers scooping up and destroying great swathes of virgin moorland and heaping them over the medieval and post-medieval hedges to increase their height, all in the name of "stock-proofing". The damage being done to the natural habitat and visual amenity is horrendous. No attempt is being made to employ local hedging techniques. An eyesore is being created, with history, archaeology and wildlife habitat being destroyed.

FENCING AND GRAZING WITH CATTLE TO BE INTRODUCED TO UNTOUCHED CORNISH WILDERNESS

Natural "England" in its horrific HEATH Project, which aims to destroy the intrinsic nature and character of the Penwith Moors, that the NT is currently wreaking havoc near the Four Parishes Stone, south of Carn Galva.

North of Carn Galva, on the B3306, cattle grids have gone in, with totally alien flanking gates and fences, with by-pass gates and surfaces created by destroying yet more moorland. "County" Highways granted permission to the NT for the grids but doubts as to the legality of that permission are currently being investigated (we believe there is a problem under Section 10 of the Highways Act).

The HEATH Project manager, Matthew Carter, stated some weeks ago in The Cornishman that, if public opinion is against the project, then it will not go ahead. We have St Just Town Council against it; Zennor Parish Council against it, only two Penwith Councillors for it, the Nine Maidens commoners pulling out of it, and a petition of over 1,000 signatures opposing the HEATH Project. What more indication of local opinion does Carter want? He and the NT heirarchy are determined to bulldoze (literally) this through.

If any of you are members of the National Trust, please cancel your membership, and pass this on to your friends and family. The NT (and Natural "England") have no intention of listening to local concern - (and there is a lot of that). Perhaps they'll respond to a language they can understand.
