Rooftop Protest at Cluster-Bomb Maker's Bristol Offices: Week 2!

Update!: As the process enters the 2nd week, Ed Hill writes; The rooftop protesters welcome visitor during the day, evenings, and at especially at weekends. Recently policing has been light to non-existent. Security guards in the office buildings are adopting a stay-out-of-sight policy. Food, water, thermos of hot drinks, and other treats can be hauled up to the roof on a rope. Wish-list [of wants]...Full article.

Ed Hill writes: Anti-war protesters have braved sub-zero temperatures in the night to continue their rooftop protest at the Raytheon office block in Frenchay near Bristol...This morning supporters on the ground delivered a letter to the office unit, Argentum House, informing them that Raytheon is breaching international law and should be given notice to leave. The Raytheon office is at Argentum House, Bristol business Park Frenchay, near the MOD site at Abbeywood. This is the third roof-top protest as part of a total of eight on-going weekly protests at the Raytheon offices in Frenchay, One roof-top protester said "The US and Britain had no more right to invade Iraq or Afghanistan than Nazi Germany did to invade Poland or France. Raytheon played their part by producing foul, indiscriminate weapons and we won’t be quiet till they have left our city for good."... Raytheon are 4th largest arms company in the world with a $20 billion turnover per year. They are involved massively in the manufacture or delivery systems of WMD. They are the biggest cruise missile maker (Patriot and tomahawk). Their range of both cruise-missiles and plane-dropped bombs can be loaded with cluster bombs. Cluster bombs are indiscriminate weapons killing civilians and soldiers alike. Full article.

The Silent Guardian™ protection system is a revolutionary less-than-lethal directed energy application that employs millimeter wave technology to repel individuals or crowds without causing injury. The system provides a zone of protection that saves lives, protects assets and minimizes collateral damage. Silent Guardian produces precise effects at longer ranges than current less-than-lethal systems and provides real-time ability to establish intent and de-escalate aggression. Various commercial and military applications include law enforcement, checkpoint security, facility protection, force protection and peacekeeping missions.

I wondered why this wasn't being covered by BEP or BBC...OK maybe I should have not had such high hopes of the mainstream media (hah).

Here's the response for your lulz:

Just had this reponse back from the bloke at BBC:

>>

We could all climb up trees, building, towers etc to protest about any number of things and then just wait for the media to turn up to publicise our cause

Sorry- it doesn't work that way..

>>
I'm f*cking speechless!

Funny isn't it how they choose what to report.
Every pointless word by our politicians, leaders and celebs may get reported, however stupid it may be. But when the unknown take some action and try to speak about it, they are ignored. Maybe its because at the end of the day its just about selling their papers, and nothing to do with reporting real news or reality.

Of course one problem the rooftop protesters face is that their action is 'non-violent' and therefore not very spectacular in the editors eyes. Its also in an out of the way location. You can bet you last pound though that if Raytheon's offices were trashed or burnt, the media would be rushing to cover the news (whilst of course condemning the protesters for their actions, but not the arms firm for theirs).

... if reporting is about selling papers, in our consumption driven society, then that tells you what readers, watchers & listeners are interested in.....

..... as well as what they don't care about.......

Personally I wish the media would report stories like this, but I'm old & cynical enough to know that I'm in a minority amongst my fellow 'citizens'..... who tbh, don't care......
