Interrogating the myths of the Russian Revolution

The dominant view is still overwhelmingly that the horrors of the Stalinist era grew seamlessly out of Lenin's political philosophy and practice, and that both are thus equally reactionary.

Is this fundamental line of most school history lessons really to be taken for granted? What exactly was the significance of the wider international context in which the Russian Revolution and subsequent Civil War took place? Was the rise of Stalin inevitable? What are the lessons for how we organise to resist today?
