An evening of actions in Bristol, Friday 20th Feb

On Friday 20th Feb 2009 Bristol's new Sexual Assault Referral Clinic will open. This represents the best chance for men, women and children who have been affected by sexual violence to recover from their attacks and to get justice. In Avon and Somerset only 4.2% of rape cases end in a conviction, the new clinic will help close this justice gap. Later this year Bristol's first Rape Crisis centre will also open offering long-term support.

In celebration of these two new services in Bristol and in response to the recent sex attacks in Easton and Redland, a Reclaim the Night march has been called. The Bristol Feminist Network has been working with the Council, the police, community groups, support services and charities to organise four events in Bristol:

6pm Candle-lit vigil at College Green
7pm March from College Green to the Trinity Centre
8pm Speeches at Trinity
9.30 Music and dancing at Trinity til late (suggested donation £2)

We hope that Bristol Reclaim the Night will serve as a great, big, public reminder that everyone has a right to experience the city free from fear, whatever the time of day and whatever their gender. The campaign will also be calling for the achievement of the following aims:

1. Secure long-term, sustainable funding for victim support services in Bristol
2. Educate on safety and respect to prevent sexual violence
3. Demand an increase in rape convictions

Join us to reclaim Bristol's streets in an evening of actions supported by dozens of community groups and hundreds of individuals. Everyone is welcome to join this campaign and together we can make a difference in our city.
