SMASH EDO/ITT

category south west | peace | news report author Monday March 30, 2009 15:37author by Supporter Report this post to the editors

ITT (as in EDO /ITT/MBM) are trying to hide their evil profiteering from the arms trade.
The fact that once manufactured their bloody products can end up anywhere, including
rogue states seems to be of little or no concequence.

Another examle of why six people took matters (and hammers) into their own hands
when in Brighton this January.

ITT shareholders ask for account of arms sales

'THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECOMMENDS YOU VOTE AGAINST AGENDA ITEM 3.'

3.
To vote on a shareholder proposal, if properly presented at the meeting, requesting that the Company provide a comprehensive report at a reasonable cost and omitting proprietary and classified information of the Company’s foreign sales of military and weapons-related products and services.

Three church groups will ask shareholders of ITT Corp. of White Plains to require the defense contractor to report on its foreign sales of weapons-related and military services.

The Dominican Sisters of Hope, the Presbyterian Church (USA), and the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Episcopal Church plan to present the resolution at ITT’s annual meeting at its White Plains headquarters on May 12, according to the company’s proxy statement filed today.

The resolution would require the company to file a “comprehensive” report, excluding proprietary or classified data, within six months of the meeting. The resolution notes that two years ago ITT was fined $50 million for violating rules governing the handling of documents related to overseas military contracts.

“Weapons sold to one country at a certain time subsequently can become a threat to our own security, as we have seen several times in our recent history,” the church groups said in a statement accompanying the resolution.

The report would help shareholders evaluate the effectiveness of new procedures the company has put in place to prevent further violations of the law, the groups added.

In arguing against the resolution, ITT said that the information already is in the public record through government agencies, ITT’s own annual report, and its Web site. Among other organizations, it cited the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (www dsca.mil,) which lists contracts and public notices of proposed military sales overseas.

Direct action in solidarity with EDO 2 - Brighton

@ | 30.03.2009 11:40 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Social Struggles | World
In the night of 29 March 2009, the prison probation service building of Brighton was attacked with paintbombs and spraypaint signs "No War" & "EDO 2". The HSBC bank next door was also smashed windows.

These actions have been taken in solidarity with the 'EDO 2', Robert and Elijah, that are jailed in this period because they attacked the factory of arms EDO in Brighton (suppliers of the Israeli army). With these energies we wish to extend the fight against the objectives of the judicial and capitalist system. We can only attack one or two targets this time but the unique attacks they express always to us our rage against the total network of oppression.

Thus these energies are taken also in the solidarity and the collective effort with those that fight the NATO summit in Strasbourg and those that take the streets in London against the G20 this week.

Solidarity means attack - For a hot summer.

a few points

yay for setting up an alternative platform, should be at every rally as a previous comment has suggested.

in this context we don't have the element of surprise (see action of 6 at edo, raytheon 9 etc etc), surprise might have been there back in '99, but the police do their homework and take the movement more seriously than it takes itself

if we're going to encourage people to take risks against the state, we have to back it with pro-active solidarity (how much solidarity are the edo 6 - 2 in jail getting - from our movement? ran into one defendent leafletting the march but didn't see any other sign of it.
