Jump To Comment: 1 2I have always loved cycling but on Christmas Eve in 2008 I fell off my bike, breaking left hand shoulder blade, collar bone and lots of ribs. I also managed to fracture my skull and break bits inside. As a result , with no balance centre on my left or vestibular nerve I was told it was going to be hard to learn to walk in a straight line again and very unlikely I will ever ride a bike.
But being a Yorkshire man and stubborn I have defied the doctors and with determination learnt how to ride a bike all over again. Well now 6 months on, I am back to full fitness and on my race bike. Up to 80-100 miles a week and looking good. I can even hit over 35 mph down the hills.
Going to do the Bristol Bike Ride on Sunday just for fun.
Having beaten my problems I love cycling even more than ever.

2009 is the year I have rediscovered cycling having given it up in my teens, (don't ask how long ago). I bought a bike last year and I've been cycling a few miles to and from work each day but in Jan 2009 I got involved with the Get Gorge-ous challenge run by 3 fantastic ladies. They took us out each weekend on longer and longer rides and on June 13th eighty of us cycled from Bristol to Cheddar, up the gorge and back to Bristol and we were all very proud of our achievement.
I completed the 38 mile ride today with my brother and I think I saw you guys whizz past me on the Portway.
I'm hooked on cycling now and my brother and I were already planning our next ride today.
