Michael Brown, Paul Strasburger, Don Foster MP and the B&NES Liberal Democrats

category bath | local government | opinion/analysis author Sunday June 21, 2009 14:28author by Joe Public - Concerned Residents Association Report this post to the editors

Fraud, money laundering, the Liberal Democrats and the City of Bath connection

On the run fraudster Mike Brown, recently sentenced in his absence to 7 years in prison, who donated £2.4m of fraudlently obtained cash to fund the Liberal Democrats election campaign in 2005 was only able to evade justice by being granted bail by the courts. He was clearly helped in his bail application by Mr Paul Strasburger, whose many business interests include providing security for 5000 empty properties around the country, of Bath who:

1) paid out of his own pocket for a very expensive legal team to represent Brown

2) put up the substantial amount of bail money for Brown

3) provided his home address, a large farm on the outskirts of Bath, as Brown's bail address. A property which was subsequently raided by the City of London Police.

What concerns me as a Bath resident is that Paul Strasburger has been bankrolling the B&NES Liberal Democrat party machine including Don Fosters constituency office for at least the past 4 years.

This financial support for the Liberal Democrats in B&NES involved in several instances large cash donations by Strasburger eg: approximately £70,000 cash in 2005, not forgetting the annual £12,000 plus Strasburger gives to Don Foster MP towards his constituency office running costs.

Surely questions need to be asked about these very large cash donations apart from the deeply disturbing issue of the B&NES Liberal Democrats being funded by someone who appears to be intimately connected with the fraudster and money launderer Mike Brown.

Everyone who uses this site should be aware that the author of this tripe is not "Joe Public" or "Bob" as he called himself last time he went off on his obsessive one-man attack on Don Foster who by the way does a great job as MP for Bath and has nothing to hide with his expenses or funding.

Joe Public and Bob are in fact Alexander Johnston who is a rather sad person who attacks all and sundry in Bath, where he lives. He regurgitates facts which are in the public domain and then adds in a big dose of fiction and innuendo to try and create something out of nothing.

Last time he told us how he's sent all his nonsense off the Daily Torygraph but he still hasn't told us why they binned it and printed none of it. I'll tell you why - it's wind and p**s.

Joe, are you suggesting that Strasburger is dishonest or that the Liberals should not accept his donations? If so please be brave enough to say it. Otherwise I think you should stop your smearing of the man. Anyone who helps the Liberals fight the Tories is a good guy in my book.

I can't comment on the authorship of this article; I wouldn't have a clue. But the assertion that Don Foster has nothing to hide vis-a-vis expenses needs defending. An earlier article on the subject listed some pretty dubious items:
http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/article/690554
I looked some of them up on the official site:
http://mpsallowances.parliament.uk/mpslordsandoffices/h...ster/

I, for one, am pretty annoyed that Don Foster saw fit to spend three grand of tax payer's money to outfit his kitchen. The man earns £62 000 a year for being an MP, and he should bloody well use his own money, if he wants some new cupboards

JD I am not the author of the above article so please refrain any further from pointing the finger at me. It has to asked who is JD? Is it Don Foster maybe, Paul Wiltshire Deputy Editor Bath Chronicle, a BANES Lib Dem Cllr ? Who knows and who really cares? It does appear that serious questions do need to be asked about the funding of the Bath Liberal Democrats and Don Fosters office by Mr Strasburger fomer close associate of Mr Brown. Lets have some answers JD eg: when are the Lib Dems going to pay back Browns fraudulent £2.4m donation to its rightful owners?

Regards,

Alexander Johnston

Alexander or Joe Public or whatever you call yourself:

Both your claims in your last sentence are untrue. Michael Brown has NOT been convicted of Fraud, and he has NOT been convicted of Money Laundering.

You keep bleating on about "questions need to asked". Go on, ask them - or shut up.
