![]() Somerset NUT makes large anti-racist campaign donation at Bridgwater TUC "At the last meeting of Bridgwater TUC Vicky Nash, South West TUC Vice-Chair and NUT delegate to the trades council, presented TUC treasurer and firefighter Leigh Redman with the councils largest-ever donation: a cheque for nearly £600 to be spent on continuing the councils' fight against racism and fascism, and the threat of the BNP in Somerset in particular. The British National Party came fifth out of six in a recent Bridgwater local election, thanks to an intensive anti-racist campaign involving over 50 local people. Donations like this from Somerset teachers can ensure that the BNP will never gain ground in the Bridgwater area, as long as there are trades unionists and other local people willing to oppose them." |
