END:CIV Film Screening at Kebele this Sunday

As part of Kebele's usual Sunday Vegan Cafe:
"END:CIV"
"Endless economic growth has turned into a global economic crash. What will
... the next hundred years bring?
Students of history know that all civilizations eventually come to an end.
The ancient Mayans, the dynasties of China, and the mighty Roman Empire,
as long-lived and powerful as they were, could not escape this
inevitability. The same goes for the culture we call Western Civilization.
The causes underlying the collapse of civilizations can be traced to
overuse of resources. As your eyes move across this screen, the world is
reeling: economic chaos, peak oil, climate change, environmental
degradation, and political turmoil. Every day, newspaper headlines re-hash
stories of scandal, government corruption and betrayal of the public
trust. We don’t have to make outraged demands for the end of the current
global system — it seems to be coming apart on its own.
But acts of courage, compassion and altruism abound, even in the most
damaged places. By documenting the resilience of the people hit hardest by
war and repression, and the heroism of those coming forward to confront
the crisis head-on, END:CIV illuminates a way out of this all-consuming
madness and into a saner future.
In our lifetimes, we will bear witness to planet-wide environmental
destruction and catastrophic economic failures. But this crisis is also an
opportunity to unravel the delusions that got us into this mess."
Food will be served from 7PM, film starts at 9PM.
Suggested donation for food: £2.50 (money goes to Kebele).

Jump To Comment: 1 2If this film " End Civ" is the film based on some of Derek Jensen's premises in his book "Endgame", then the description of it is very misleading.
Primarily,Jensen states that industrial civilization will not undergo a willing transformation into a sustainable future ( it is inherently unsustainable) and therefore must be dismantled. He proposes that we don't just sit back and watch it collapse because it will first kill a lot of life on earth, rendering the planet largely uninhabitable for millions of species...including us.
I would urge people to read Jensen's Book and to visit a web site called " Deep Green Resistance"
The description above is the introduction to the about section on http://endciv.com, and yes the film is largely based on Jensen's books 'end game'. If you continue to read then it talks about Jensen's theory.
Personally I didn't think the beginning suggested a 'sit back and do nothing' approach to civilisation. It merely begins by briefly explaining the destructive and unsustainable nature of civilisation and its inevitable collapse.
If in doubt, come to the screening!
