Hinkley Point has been reaching the national news recently with tree occupations and then the take over of a barn  by anti nuclear activists on the proposed 500ha site for Europe's biggest nuclear reactor.

The biggest action of all is yet to come with the Surround and Blockade of Hinkley power station on Saturday/Sunday 10-11 March.

Bristol CND are organising a coach to take people to the Surround event on the 10th.. Here are the details.

Coach from Bristol organised by Bristol CND departs 10:00 from Anchor Road (outside @Bristol), returns early evening Tickets: £10 waged & £5 unwaged, available from ‘Katz’ shop, 55 Gloucester Road, Bristol For more information email: SecretaryBristolCND@gmail.com or tel Bill on 0117 971 5451

For those wishing to stay for the overnight blockade, a minibus will be available to take people back as far as Bridgwater station, where they can get a train back to Bristol on Sunday.

Hinkley Point is the first of eight proposed sites for nuclear new build to go ahead. We stopped them here before in 1987, and we can do it again in 2012. If they fail at Hinkley, it is unlikely the “nuclear renaissance” will have the momentum to continue. On the 10th -11th March 2012, one year since the Fukushima nuclear disaster began, we will return to Hinkley to form a human chain around the station to show our determined opposition to new nuclear.  No to new nuclear! Not here, not anywhere!   To ‘Surround Hinkley’ is to demand to have a voice in decisions about our energy future. Help to make this a festival of creative resistance with music, art, theatre, banners, and whatever takes your fancy! To mark the end of the ‘Surround’, there will be a gathering at the main gate of Hinkley for a rally and music. The Blockade will start after the rally and will continue until 2pm the next day (  Sunday11th March).

The Stop New Nuclear Alliance is organising this event and we will providing legal and and as much practical support as possible but we are urging every one to come as prepared as possible, especially those taking part in an all night blockade. Please come well prepared for these events, bring warm clothes, waterproofs, flasks of hot drinks, enough food, and good stout boots or shoes. Maybe some cardboard or something to sit on, a sleeping bag, a bivvy bag , a sleeping mat a pop up tent. Also bring something to make noise with, a banner or placard.

We need as many people as possible to come to the Surround and Blockade. We need a SAFE and SUSTAINABLE energy future. Nuclear power is a dirty, dangerous, expensive and deeply militarised industry. ( If it wasn't why would they now be threatening to bomb IRAN for developing a nuclear reactor ?) We must stop in NOW in its tracks !

Please join us !
