Many academics and political commentators make the claim that there is a new 'class' of workers in austerity Britain today who are defined by precarious, informal and insecure work. The argument suggests that such workers have formed a new 'precariat' and that the working class as we know it is no longer the key agent of change in society. But is this interpretation wrong, is the working class 'finished', and is the precariat a false concept?

This topic will be discussed at the next meeting of Bristol Stokes Croft Socialist Workers Party and will be introduced by Jonny Jones. Jonny is deputy editor of the left journal International Socialism.

Thursday April 26th, 730pm, 5th Floor, Hamilton House, The Canteen, 80 Stokes Croft
