![]() On July 14th the EDL plan to march through Bristol. They have not been asked or invited by the people of this city and they don't care. They see Bristol as one of a few cities where they are yet to push their twisted agenda. We as the residents of Bristol must stop them The EDL stands for racism, hatred and division - none of which we want to see brought into Bristol. The EDL claim the Bristol is a hotbed of Islamic Extremism, as they have with other cities they've visited in the past few years. Anybody who lives in or around Bristol knows this is not the case: Bristol is a city that can pride itself on its diversity and its tradition of accepting outsiders. The EDL have no interest in the well being of Bristol and its residents. They simply see this as an opportunity to impose their views upon our city, and to threaten and intimidate members of our communities. We can all play a part on July 14th. Now is the time to think about what you want to do to oppose the EDL when they come to our community |

Well, we've found that the local police do tend to sort most things out in time, so I guess you could call us Liberal Conservatives. I'm not sure my Pa would agree - he likes to get stuck in with his fists sometimes, so he's maybe a facist. I don't know, it's all so confusing, I prefer to kick back instead and take it easy by the creek with my girl Olivia instead - I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Anyhow, it's getting late and I still have chores to do so I'll say night to y'all and enjoy your parade on the 14th! We have one down in town each year 10 days earlier and it's a mighty fine evening of dancing'n'singing!
Goodnight All.

no one speaks 'for the people'. the people who designed the leaflet live in Bristol.

okay so it is wrong to ever deny people liberties is it - so murderers and paedos should be free to roam the streets. hasn't it occured to you that there already exists 'social infrastructure put in place to >selectively deny people liberties' but that it isn't very good at controlling fascists and racists. and you think people who try to stop fascists are actually fascists themselves! duh

so all ideologies are as bad as each other are they? Fascism, anarchism, budhism, feminisim - all essentially the same because they have something in common - they involve ideas. as for your idea that all anarchists wear black hoodies you're about as wrong as thinking all feminists wear dungarees.
i suppose you think you have no ideology when in fact you do have one - conservative liberalism i.e. everything is okay and I will rely on the police to sort out any problems that arise in the future. wake up
I'm not a fan of the EDL; however, in a different context, this rhetoric could have been written by right-wing fascists:
"They have not been asked or invited by the people of this city and they don't care. They see Bristol as one of a few cities where they are yet to push their twisted agenda. We as the residents of Bristol must stop them"
Who speaks for "the people", how do you know they "don't care" (presumably they DO care, since they're putting THEIR time and resources into the march!) As to seeing Bristol, well it is a large population center; sure they are targeting it but in some sense so do choicier groups like "No to Cuts" etc.
I don't think i want to see the social infrastructure put in place to selectively deny people liberties. Mores the point, I see such a groups existence as a symptom of social-inequality, and the result of the above language and behavior it advocates just seems pretty short-sighted, or worse some sort of raison d'etre for an alternatively but equivalently fascist/authoritarian expression...
Swap that George Cross for some anarcho flag or slogan, give them black hoodies and the underlying theme aint too far off....uniforms, ideology, etc...it's all ok so long as it's *your* views that are being aired....
