Join the national week of Action against Workfare!

7th July – 14th July 2012

The shambolic treatment of unemployed workers during the jubilee pageant has added further scorn on the providers of Workfare placements. Now the Government is planning to push unpaid work, onto 70,000 unemployed workers, through their Mandatory Work Activity Programme. The time to stand up to the poverty pimps is now.

Boycott Workfare has called a week of Action against Workfare. During this week of action the ‘ethical’ company Holland & Barrett, signed up to 1100 workfare places, will receive the deserved focus of this week of action. This is because Holland and Barrett continues to exploit unemployed workers as free labour; therefore a boycott will be in effect until they withdraw. Other workfare providers and organisers will not be free from criticism and direct action.

July 7th will see our campaign take to the streets of Bristol again. The following week will see a variety of action across the region. We currently have news of pickets of workfare providers taking place in Bath, Yate, Wells, Stroud, Swindon and again in Bristol. More details to follow.

To build the pressure we are also calling on people to join in a communication blockade of the key companies involved. Details to follow during the week of action.
