Bristol Stop The War Coalition present a screening of Route Irish – Ken Loach's 2011 thriller. The film follows ex-mercenary Fergus as he tries to find the truth behind the death in Iraq of Frankie, his friend and fellow-mercenary. The film explores the role of private security firms and the effect of the occupation of Iraq both on the occupiers and the occupied. It's estimated that there were around 160,000 foreign contractors in Iraq at the height of the occupation; perhaps as many as 50,000, were heavily armed security personnel. The conduct of the unjust and illegal war, and the occupation afterwards, would have been impossible without them. The film portrays a tight, claustrophobic world where instability reigns and people are pawns in a dangerous game. We also plan to show other short films on Iran & Afghanistan. Possible other attractions. Watch out for more details. For more information email bristolstopwar@hotmail.com
