The Internet's power to aid community empowerment will be one of the topics for debate at the upcoming Brief Encounters festival of short film, in Bristol, from 12-16 November.

Rick Perez, co-director of UNPRECEDENTED,a documentary charting how George Bush 'stole' the US Presidential Elections 2000, will be among the guests at a debate on the ever-growing impact of alternative media, taking place at Watershed on Saturday 15 November (5.45pm start, admission free).

The debate - GLOBAL VILLAGE VOICES: THE INTERNET & COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT - is being staged as part of the five-day Brief Encounters festival of short that begins on Wednesday 12 November.

It will be chaired by Gareth Evans, the editor of VERTIGO magazine, and Rick Perez will be joined on the panel by representatives of Indymedia UK and Vision Machine, a film-makers collective.
