As the G8 meets in St Petersburg, Russia, it’s been pretty quiet in Bristol this year (just a banner drop so far - http://bristol.indymedia.org/newswire.php?story_id=25201 ), compared to last (see - http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/newswire.php?story_id=25177). Of course despite the best efforts of Blair & NeoLabour, we do still have a few rights left to demonstrate here, for now, whilst in Russia it is a completely different picture. Any form of dissent there is met with arrest and probably a beating or worse. For several weeks now campaigners, both local and international, have been harassed, taken off trains & planes, and locked up, as these reports & info show: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2006/07/344225.html read full story / add a comment

Or had I been replaced for the night, and made it back to our Edinburgh base (and pub)? It’s all such a blur now, yet only a year ago… read full story / add a comment
