Our series of monthly Film Nights continues with the documentary “To Begin”. Ali Hobbs’ 30-minute film is an intimate portrait of women’s struggle to keep their families alive. Based on conversations with village girls and women in southern Ethiopia, the film follows them on their daily march to dig for water. The long and laden journey home is filled with laughter and with sad remembrance of family and friends lost to water-borne disease. You might have heard this one; Community nurse Caroline Petrie, 45, says she asked an elderly woman patient during a home visit if she wanted her to say a prayer for her. The patient complained to the health trust about Mrs Petrie who follows the Baptist faith.
