Our series of monthly Film Nights continues with the documentary “To Begin”. Ali Hobbs’ 30-minute film is an intimate portrait of women’s struggle to keep their families alive. Based on conversations with village girls and women in southern Ethiopia, the film follows them on their daily march to dig for water. The long and laden journey home is filled with laughter and with sad remembrance of family and friends lost to water-borne disease. Ali introduces the screening with a presentation on the making of the film, and follows it with a discussion on the issues and the lives it portrays. read full story / add a comment
