So few people now attend the Bristol Vigil that the question must be asked, is it time to call it a day? There are often only two or three people in attendance, if that, and this makes them particularly vulnerable to the predatory, or just the moody, “out for a bit of sport”. The two founder members of the Vigil, Lois who’s ninety and Neville, ninety-six, need not be so concerned in this regard, but just a couple of people on the vigil may well fall prey to the opportunist bullying fraternity. read full story / add a comment

This Sunday, 10 May, sees the Bristol ABC prisoner support group take its turn at hosting the weekly vegan Sunday cafe at Kebele (http://www.kebelecoop.org). The Bristol ABC group has been reactivated over the last year or so. There is a the need to provide support for political prisoners, and radicalised social prisoners, in the UK and abroad; and there is a need to begin campaigning against the prison-industrial complex – the sector of capitalism that makes a profit out of building and running prisons, and is slowly turning the whole of society into one big open prison. As more and more campaigners & protesters (anti-war & anti-militarist, anti-capitalist, animal rights, anti-fascist and more) are being locked away for years on end, our movement needs to increase its work in supporting and campaigning for our comrades & friends imprisoned by the state. read full story / add a comment

With public mistrust in the police, and their political paymasters, running at record high levels, it should come as no surprise that your average PC is not a happy bunny. Their sudden lampooning in the media, alongside the hatred they receive at all times from a large percentage of the population, is driving some of them to distraction. It may not therefore come as a total surprise if they revolted. read full story / add a comment

The sudden interest of the media, and the latest generation of campaigners & protesters, in police misbehaviour and brutality, needs to be put into context - because it isn't anything new. This Saturday's protest in Bristol, against police brutality and the repressive state, is nothing new either. But welcome all the same! read full story / add a comment
