Terezin/Theresianstadt shows the Nazi mentality at its most bizarre and brutal. Terezin was a concentration camp dressed up as a cultural shop-window – a haven where Jews appeared to be free from persecution and free to create. The truth was different – as this evening of music, talk and film lays bare. read full story / add a comment

Britain is expected to decide on Thursday that it remains committed to the Eurofighter defence contract, though it wants to trim some costs related to the multi-billion dollar programme, government sources say. Talks involving Business Secretary Peter Mandelson and officials from the Ministry of Defence, the Treasury and the prime minister's office have concluded that cancelling the contract would have too much of an impact on jobs and Britain's reputation, as well as incurring fines of up to $1.5 billion (992.5 million pounds). The MoD said that at peak production, the Typhoon programme will help sustain 5,000 jobs atBAE Systems, 4,000 throughout aero-engine maker Rolls Royce and its supply chain and up to 16,000 in total in the UK aerospace industry. read full story / add a comment

This Monday saw folk from the south west visit Brighton for the day. Known for their love of partying Monday was to be no exception. Although, in truth, the main events of the day were not held on the beach - they were held up in the town, on the streets. As usual plod decided to gate crash. But then idiots usually do appear uninvited with the sole purpose of disrupting the day's events. Never the less, determined to proceed with the day's agenda... the party got under way.... read full story / add a comment

Gaza may be out of the news but the murderous Israeli blockade continues to hamper the humanitarian operation. Aid is literally rotting at the border crossings while tens of thousands go hungry. Reconstruction has barely begun. Meanwhile Britain and the US continue their support of Israel, with US aid flowing uninterrupted and Britain continuing to sell arms. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday afternoon I joined some 40 odd people in parading around the perimeter of Horfield prison in solidarity with Elijah Smith, one of the EDO Decommissioners who is being held inside. It was a noisy old parade as we tried to communicate to Elijah our solidarity, our love, our respect for the action he and his comrades took, and our hope that he will soon be breathing spring air from outside those big old walls. read full story / add a comment |
