Been at recent demonstrations with police present then the likelihood is that you are on the CrimInt database. The government is further eroding our civil liberties by producing databases that include footage of people at demonstrations and they are retaining this information in order to build up a picture of all the events you have been at, even if you have not been involved in any illegal activities you are still on this database. Also this week the Information Commissioner has revealed that building companies were vetting employees through information covertly gathered from a private detective on trade union activiites and conduct at work. read full story / add a comment

NO2ID has been warning since 2006/7 about the stated intentions of government "to overcome current barriers to information sharing within the public sector" [1]. Now the Ministry of Justice has launched an extraordinary coup. It is about to convert the Data Protection Act into its exact opposite, a means for any government department to obtain and use any information however it likes. read full story / add a comment

After the police aided the illegal eviction of the occupants of 71 Old Market street on Friday the 9th of January (see: http://bristol.indymedia.org/article/689546) there will be a presentation of the following statement to officers at Trinity Police Station. Their officers formed the majority of the 25-30 police who aided the illegal eviction, some of whom played football upstairs in the main room while the inhabitants were made homeless. This is a call out to come down and support the reminder to the police about section 6, and the proper procedures that owners and police must take, and how dialogue over violence is the only way. With UK prison numbers at an all time record high resulting in worsening prison conditions, and increases in drug use, self-harm & suicide, it is perhaps surprising that there seems to be so little unrest in our prisons. This is not the case in Europe. Germany saw a wave of hunger strikes by prisoners in September 2008 demanding improved conditions and more justice for prisoners. Greece has just seen a full month of mass hungerstrikes and outside solidarity actions making similar demands, and it is believed Italy is about to experience the same. read full story / add a comment |
