Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. A climate hearing is an opportunity for those who are experiencing the impact of climate change to make their voices heard, locally, nationally and globally. Bristol's climate hearing will feature witnesses from Malawi, India and the UK’s South West region. Their testimonies will be presented to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December as part of an undeniable and global body of evidence that climate change is affecting us all here and now. read full story / add a comment

Legislation introduced in April 2009 calls on local authorities and developers to involve local people in decisions that affect them. Local residents and architects have taken the initiative to find out what their community wants during a month-long intensive consultation this October. The aim is to create a shared vision for Easton’s future which will then be developed into a strategic, community-led regeneration document that reflects local people’s aspirations. An urban regeneration document which clearly sets out residents’ visions will not only give the community more power at the planning stage but will also be invaluable for developers and the local authority. Producing a well-researched and relevant regeneration document will make the community’s wishes clear. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the document will be adopted fully, it should be invaluable in supporting the local authority’s obligation to consult. read full story / add a comment

Following preliminary meetings in July and August and after gathering nearly five hundred local supporters on the social networking site Facebook, BAF is now organised and campaigning. [It will next meet at The Stag and Hounds, Old Market, 7.30pm, 25 August and again on 8 Sept]. BAF Press Officer Glenn Vowles said, “Bristolians Against Fluoridation was formed to oppose the imposed mass medication of Bristol and the surrounding areas in BANES, N Somerset, and S Glos. that would result from NHS South West instructing the water company to fluoridate our tap water. Our view is that fluoridation: is not ethical; does not work; is not safe; and is not wanted.” read full story / add a comment |
