Sadly the bad weather meant that Mid-Somerset CND Peace Group had to cancel their Peace Gig in Glastonbury on Feb 6th, but the good news is that they will not only re-schedule a big gig for later in the year but in the meantime they are putting on a scaled down version at their social event in Wells on Monday March the 2nd. read full story / add a comment

You might have heard this one; Community nurse Caroline Petrie, 45, says she asked an elderly woman patient during a home visit if she wanted her to say a prayer for her.

The patient complained to the health trust about Mrs Petrie who follows the Baptist faith.

She was suspended, without pay, on 17 December and will find out the outcome of her disciplinary meeting next week. read full story / add a comment

Spring is about to spring and its time for Tinkers Bubble's coppicing weekend again. It is on the weekend of 21st/22nd February 2009 at Tinkers Bubble community near Yeovil, Somerset. Lots of sumptious food provided, cider, and accomodation (not quite so sumptious but adequate). We work from 9am ish to dusk on each day, coppicing hazel - some old derelict stools and some cut some years ago, working with hand tools in teams of 3-5 with at least one experienced coppicer per team. read full story / add a comment
somerset / protests / news report Sunday January 11, 2009 14:15 by Johnny
Three coach loads of Bristol activists joined the London demonstration against the massacres in Gaza yesterday. This was an angry, spirited protest embracing activists from a very wide range of people including quakers, Communist Party, anarchists, moslem and Palestian solidarity groups. Many nationalities were represented and noticeably many families with children. Perhaps the most moving part of the opening rally in Hyde Park was the reading of poem for the children of Gaza by the children's poet laureate Michael Rosen. A group of children then read out the names of some of the 250 plus Gazan children who have been murdered by the Israel Defence Force since the beginning of the current assault. It was very hard to guage numbers other than to say it was a very big demonstration filling the London streets and even when marching down the Bayswater Road it was impossible to see the front or the back. read full story / add a comment
