Reverend Billy and The Church of Life After Shopping is project of The Immediate Life, a New York based arts organization using theater, humor, and grassroots organizing to advance individuals and communities towards a more equitable future. He would like to invite all those who value participatory democracy, ecological sustainability, the preservation of vibrant communities and the local economy to Arnolfini café Bar at 10.30am 27 May for a gathering of like minded folk. ........................................ "As the New York City and London money markets crash, and the Earth makes a message of change so clear, suddenly the Primarks and Tescos and Spencers, their thousand miles supply lines from sweatshops, the over-packaging, over-advertising and all that fossil-fuel-centric retail, ultimately forcing personal debt levels that have made so many of us a passive consumer people - that whole DEMON MONOCULTURE is now called into question. Or rather, why isn't the question louder and clearer? The Church of Life After Shopping tries to preach and sing that question- and have insidious FUN doing it. Will you believe with us? In our Church we PUT THE ODD BACK IN GOD. We look forward to joining activists in the cities where our tour bus will stop! We have news to share about our fight in the USA, and, we have a lot to learn from the fierceness of the opposition to THE DEADLY LOGOS in England, so ahead of the Americans in the evolution of this new promised land that will follow the false retail utopia. We can bring our two countries back, and bring our leaders back - to local and more compassionate economies. Local-lujah! We are so looking forward to trying out some new GOSPEL HEXES we've been working on, special harmonies that actually change the messages of advertisements into PEACE RHYMES at a distance of more than a mile... miraculous! Blessings power and wildness --- Reverend Billy, Savitri D, and the Life After Shopping singers... read full story / add a comment

So a broad campaign against this idea has developed... read full story / add a comment
