There is a specific attention paid to the outcome of the dispute, how academics feel about the result, and what effects this has had and will have in the future for students and teachers alike. Many students in Bristol are currently finding that courses and teachers are disappearing from their universities - this feature looks to address the reasons why this is happening and suggest ways to prevent further such losses. read full story / add a comment

The myth of consumerism is that happiness depends on having things, leading to a lifestyle hungry for resources. Yet although material wealth levels have risen in industrialised countries, studies show people are less happy and depression is more common. The new science of positive psychology explores what happiness is based on and looks at how we can cultivate it. Each year, The Bristol Happiness Lectures brings leading figures from this field to Bristol. This year Dr Chris Johnstone, author of Find Your Power and speaker at the recent Transition City Bristol launch, will be introducing practical strategies to improve mood. He will be joined by Dr Ilona Boniwell, author of Positive Psychology in a Nutshell. If we’re to cultivate lifestyles that don't wreck our world, we need ways of generating good feelings that don’t cost the earth. read full story / add a comment
