Come and practise your crochet on some bits of knitting. You can use doubles and crab stitch to edge or join anything especially stretchy things. Please bring a crochet hook that you like using, but not too big (between 2-5mm) and a jumper you want to change into a cardigan, if you have one. I'll have some of my scrap yarn for people who don't have any. Beginners can learn the basics without having to do that difficult first row. Improvers can ask questions, learn and share techniques, or make a new universe entirely out of crochet, depending on your level.

Laurel Pyne, who is leading this workshop on what she calls 'Conscious Communication' has the following to say about it -

"Conscious Communication is a system of feeling and thinking that leads us express ourselves more clearly, honestly and safely. Works well in both personal and professional situations. It is a way of thinking and speaking differently that results in people hearing and understanding each others real feelings and needs. It helps one realise when one is criticising, blaming and doing a guilt trip and offers you tools to get to the the true issues without causing more pain.

Using Conscious Communication tends to increase the depth of interactions and helps situations where we may be feeling stuck or that the other person is being impossible! So if you often feel wound-up or frustrated by other’s ways of communicating, give this a try. Definitely NOT PC or a quick fix, but it has the power to change difficult situations even when done poorly!

You could say that developing Conscious Communication can do for language what organic growing and Bio-dynamics do for agriculture – seems like a lot of work at the beginning but the results more than repay the effort!

In this introductory session we’ll have a look at the basics of Conscious Communication and then apply them to real-life situations that you suggest. Subjects that often arise include giving/receiving criticism, arguments about “small” issues, why some people really wind us up and the causes of anger.

I’m sure you will bring your own topics to the session and I dearly hope that we may find some easier and more comfortable ways of getting what we’re really after." read full story / add a comment

Here is what this weeks skill-sharer Fred Miller has to say about Wormeries and their importance:

"Converting food waste into compost for your garden, worm farming is adaptable to different situations in houses, flats, gardens or on a community scale. Low-tech in materials, and management, but like all composting it requires some knowledge. It also recycles waste materials like cardboard and shredded paper which together break down with the food." read full story / add a comment
