The BNP did not win anything in Bristol or the South West, but did win 2 seats as MEPs in the north. This was far, far less than the 5 seats they were hoping for - but still 2 too many. However the actual number of votes cast for the fascists was LESS than the 2004 elections, just that so many voters stayed away that they won a greater percentage of the vote. In the South West the BNP and it's racism has been opposed. A meeting in early March of the British National Party at a hotel in Gloucestershire had to be called off after protesters heard about the gathering. In Exeter they were opposed too.
